NO.55 is an exquisite space with two floors, of which the total size is 680 square meters. Its layout is different from those of normal galleries. This courtyard is quaint and quiet, and tastefully laid out. The first floor is divided into the exhibition hall and the parlor, which is an independent space for drinking tea. Liu’s study room and narrow exhibition hall is on the second floor. Both the rooms and the yard are decorated with various kinds of ancient and modern collections. Liu Shan prefers to call it a chamber, a quiet and secluded place where friends enjoy gatherings and tea. NO.55 is primarily a space for collection. There will be ten exhibitions held per year, meanwhile, it’s also focus to display and promote young artists as well as those creators of the collections involved domestic and international. The name of the space is originated from the house number — “He Ge Zhuang NO.55” . Liu Shan believes that to himself, the number 55 has a special meaning: it means he rediscovers himself at the age of 50.
